Liberals’ Economy Whitewash Insulting

The Hospital Employees Union says government’s most recent ad campaign,
extolling B.C. as “the best place on earth to work,” reads like a cruel
joke to health care workers and others impacted by the mean-spirited
policies of the B.C. Liberals.
“In fact, the B.C. Liberals’ privatization agenda has resulted in the
loss of thousands of decent, family-supporting health care jobs in our
largest and most expensive metropolitan areas,” says HEU’s acting
secretary-business manager Zorica Bosancic.
And tens of thousands more health care workers have seen their pay
cheques slashed by 15 per cent as a result of government-imposed
rollbacks.
“Is that what Victoria’s ad copy means when it claims B.C.’s labour
relations climate is the best in years?” says Bosancic.
Referring to Gordon Campbell’s lengthy list of broken promises prior to
the last election, she says, “This is a government that told
union members it wouldn’t tear up collective agreements--but they did.
“They promised the public that they would not squander taxpayer dollars
on partisan advertising – but they are.
“They also invited British Columbians to hold them to account for their
actions – and they will.”
Bosancic says no amount of advertising can whitewash this government’s
appalling record when it comes to its treatment of workers, their
families and their communities.
